Install eSIM on Android

Android menu names differ slightly by manufacturer, but the flow is the same everywhere: add a SIM, scan the QR code, then choose which line carries mobile data.

Before you start

  • The phone must be carrier-unlocked and support eSIM in your regional variant.
  • Stay on WiFi for the download, ideally before you travel.
  • Have the QR code on a second screen — Android often cannot scan from its own display.

Stock Android and Google Pixel

  1. Open Settings → Network & internet.
  2. Tap SIMs, then + Add SIM or the plus icon.
  3. Choose Download a SIM instead? and tap Next.
  4. Scan the provider's QR code and confirm the download.
  5. Name the line, for example "Travel", when prompted.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Open Settings → Connections → SIM manager.
  2. Tap Add eSIM.
  3. Tap Scan QR code from service provider, or Enter activation code to type the details manually.
  4. Confirm and wait for the profile to download, then turn the new line on.

Manual installation

Where the camera cannot read the code, choose the manual option and enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the provider. Some phones ask for a single combined activation string beginning with LPA:1$ — that is the same data in one line.

Set the line up for travel

  • Set the travel eSIM as the preferred SIM for mobile data.
  • Turn data roaming on for the travel eSIM — it roams on local partner networks.
  • Turn data roaming off on your home line so it cannot bill you.
  • Keep calls and SMS on your home line if you still want your usual number.
